Steven Sandberg-Lewis, ND
Bio: Dr. Steven Sandberg-Lewis has been a practicing naturopathic physician for nearly 40 years, previously on Orcas Island in Washington and for many years exclusively at the National University of Natural Medicine Teaching Clinic. His areas of specialty include Gastro-intestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD – including microscopic colitis), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), gastroesophageal and bile reflux (GERD), biliary dyskinesia, and chronic nausea.
In addition to supervising clinical rotations at the NCNM Clinic, as a full-time faculty member, Dr. Sandberg-Lewis teaches several academic gastroenterology courses at NUNM. He also lectures frequently at medical seminars, presents webinars and is frequently interviewed on issues of digestive health and disease. In 2014, he was named one of the “Top Docs” in Portland monthly magazines yearly healthcare issue. He is the author of the medical textbook Functional Gastroenterology: Assessing and Addressing the Causes of Functional Digestive Disorders, 2nd Ed., 2017.
Ilana Gurevich, ND
Bio: Dr. Gurevich is a naturopathic physician and acupuncturist who graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine in 2007 and 2008. She is currently co-owner of two large integrative medical clinics, one in northwest Portland and one in northeast Portland. She runs a very busy private practice specializing in treating inflammatory bowel disease as well as IBS/SIBO and functional GI disorders.
She lectures extensively and teaches about both conventional and natural treatments for inflammatory bowel disease as well as SIBO. She is one of the foremost experts on the intersection of IBD and IBS and how treating one resolves the other. Dr. Gurevich also acts as a mentor in the naturopathic community educating about GI disorders. She supervises residents and consults with physicians about their most difficult GI cases. Dr. Gurevich was nominated as one of Portland Top Docs by the Portland Monthly in both 2014 and 2016.

Mark Davis, ND
Bio: Mark Davis, ND is the founder of Bright Medicine Clinic and the IBD Specialty Center in Takoma Park, MD where he practices most of the year, treating patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He’s one of a handful of physicians in North America with clinical expertise in fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), which he offers via retention enema and capsule for patients with C diff not responding to standard therapies. He also offers clinical advice regarding helminthic therapy. He sits on the board of directors of the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Fecal Transplant Foundation, and on the editorial board of the Natural Medicine Journal.
Clyde Jensen, PhD
Bio: When Clyde B. Jensen, who holds a Ph.D. in Physiology and Pharmacology, became America’s youngest medical school president at the age of 32, the chairman of the state’s higher education system counseled him to use his extended executive career to experience as much of the healthcare and higher education continua as possible. During the next three decades Dr. Jensen led educational institutions ranging from community colleges to research universities and became the only person to lead colleges of allopathic, osteopathic, naturopathic, chiropractic and oriental medicine. Currently he teaches pharmacology and other subjects related to interprofessional patient care at the University of Western States, Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and National University of Natural Medicine.
Joshua Goldenberg, ND
Bio: Dr. Goldenberg is an active researcher with publications in high impact scientific journals such as JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine and The Cochrane Library. His research focus includes irritable bowel syndrome, probiotics, and evidence-informed practice. He is currently Research Investigator at the Bastyr University Research Institute and Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Technology Sydney. He has presented nationally and internationally on evidence-based medicine as well as probiotics and research methodology. His probiotics work has been highlighted by the BBC, The New York Times, The Seattle Times, Prevention Magazine, and Fox News.
Dr. Goldenberg is a passionate educator and is faculty for the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine’s Interprofessional Fellowship, where he teaches critical evaluation of the medical literature. He is past adjunct faculty at Bastyr University, his alma mater, in which he enrolled after receiving honors and distinction in molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania. As a registered naturopathic doctor Dr. Goldenberg focuses on integrative approaches to gastrointestinal conditions working in concert with patients’ conventional gastroenterologists.
Eliot Edwards, ND, FABNO
Bio: Eliot W. Edwards, ND, FABNO is a 2002 graduate from National College of Naturopathic Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree. His undergraduate degree was in physics and chemistry which he earned in 1990 from State University of New York College at Oneonta.
Dr. Edwards was in private practice in upstate New York from 2002-2009. From January 2009 to August 2017 he practiced with the Naturopathic Medicine Department at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, in Zion, IL. At CTCA he provided naturopathic support in an integrative oncology setting, working collaboratively with medical oncologists. He was also a Clinic instructor at National University of Health Science in Lombard, IL and has lectured extensively to community groups as well as health care practitioners on naturopathic medicine and integrative healthcare.
In April, 2013 he became a Fellow to the American Board of Naturopathic Oncologists (FABNO) after completing a rigorous application process and passing Board Certification examination.
Dr. Edwards has been very involved with the AANP as well as the NYANP and ILANP – working to support awareness and licensing for naturopathic physicians in New York and Illinois. He is currently the Co-Chair for the AANP Alliance Committee which supports the work of state associations working to license naturopathic doctors across the country.
