Medical Malpractice: The Final Frontier – Bruce Hancock, Aegis Insurance Associates
It’s everything about medical malpractice that you didn’t learn in medical school. Come learn the ABCs of medical malpractice, and how to protect yourself from it!
Bio: Bruce Hancock double majored in Pharmacy and Engineering at the University of CT. In 1975, because of his close relationships with hundreds of machine shop owners who produced parts for Pratt & Whitney engines he was recruited to work on a program with Sentry Insurance that was sponsored by the National Tool & Die Association. After two years heading that program he opened his own agency in CT to provide coverage for machine shops. In 1985 he moved to Scottsdale, AZ to manage the Phoenix office of Rollins, Burdick, Hunter, a National Insurance Broker which is now known as Aon Corporation.
In 1987 he started his own brokerage firm in Scottsdale with the idea of focusing solely on the medical field to provide hospitals, ER groups, surgery centers, and doctors a better malpractice product. In 2006 he was approached by a naturopath in Scottsdale who asked if he could provide coverage for him and other NDs. At that time Admiral Insurance and NCMIC were the only companies providing coverage for NDs and he set out to find a better market. He placed business at first with Allied World and then added some Risk Retention Groups, and finally became the managing underwriter for the Aegis program provided through Cap Specialty beginning in 2014. Aegis currently insures about one third of the licensed NDs in the US and in 2016 we opened up coverage in New England, Maryland, Hawaii, and Alaska, and we looking to open an east coast office in the near future.
